Dr. Brennan Bates explaining the three types of care at Better Chiropractic in Gilbert, Arizona.

It is one of the most common questions patients ask—and the honest answer is that there is no universal number.

The appropriate number of chiropractic visits depends on your condition, examination findings, functional limitations, goals and response to care. Two people with pain in the same area may need very different treatment plans because the underlying problems and demands on their bodies may not be the same.

Better Chiropractic is a patient-centered, evidence-informed and results-driven clinic. Our mission is to help those we serve feel better, live better and perform better.

Too many people unnecessarily suffer with pain and injuries. We provide specific, effective and comprehensive care to help patients relieve pain, heal properly, restore function and perform at their best—in work, sports and life.

Our standard is simple: higher-quality care that gets patients better. Period.

At Better Chiropractic, we do not begin every patient with a predetermined schedule. We evaluate the problem, recommend an initial plan and measure your progress so the plan can be adjusted as you improve.

What Determines the Number of Visits?

1. Your Diagnosis and Examination Findings

Back pain, neck pain, tendon injuries, joint restrictions and sports injuries do not all recover at the same rate.

Your history and examination help Dr. Brennan Bates or Dr. Will Curtis determine which tissues may be involved, whether movement or strength deficits are contributing, and whether chiropractic care is appropriate.

2. How Long the Problem Has Been Present

A recent, uncomplicated problem may respond differently than pain that has persisted for months or repeatedly returned.

Longer-standing conditions may involve reduced mobility, weakness, altered movement patterns or decreased tolerance for normal activity. Addressing those factors may require more than relieving the immediate symptoms.

3. Your Functional Goals

A patient who wants to sit comfortably at work may have different demands than a runner preparing for a race or an athlete returning to competition.

Your plan should reflect what you need your body to do—not simply where it hurts.

4. Previous Injuries and Overall Health

Previous injuries, surgeries, arthritis, general health, sleep, stress and activity level may influence recovery.

These factors do not automatically mean you will need extensive care. They help your doctor establish realistic goals and determine how your progress should be measured.

5. Your Participation Outside the Clinic

Corrective exercises, rehabilitation, activity modification and home-care recommendations are designed to help you become less dependent on treatment.

Patients who consistently follow the recommended plan may be better positioned to restore strength, movement and confidence between appointments.

6. How You Respond to Care

A treatment plan should not continue unchanged simply because a certain number of visits was initially recommended.

We monitor changes in pain, mobility, strength, function and activity tolerance. If you are progressing faster than expected, the frequency of care may decrease. If you are not progressing appropriately, the diagnosis and plan should be reconsidered.

When examination findings suggest that imaging, medical evaluation or another specialist is needed, an appropriate referral can be made.

What Is the Average at Better Chiropractic?

Based on our internal clinic data, the average active treatment plan at Better Chiropractic is approximately 10 visits.

That number is not a guarantee or a requirement. Some patients need fewer visits, while others need more care or a different clinical pathway.

Our objective is to provide specific, effective and comprehensive care, measure meaningful progress and help patients return to the activities that matter to them as efficiently as their condition allows.

What Happens During Those Visits?

Depending on your examination findings, care may include:

  • Chiropractic adjustments
  • Soft-tissue or muscle treatment
  • Active Release Technique
  • Dry needling or cupping
  • Mobility treatment
  • Corrective exercise
  • Progressive rehabilitation
  • Personalized home-care strategies

Not every patient needs every service. The combination should be selected according to the individual—not applied as a standard package.

How Does Evidence Inform Your Care?

We confidently use research, clinical experience, sound reasoning and measurable patient outcomes to guide care. We also consider biological plausibility, your response to treatment and your individual goals.

Evidence-informed care allows room for clinical judgment where research is still developing. We remain open to reasonable approaches when they are legal, sustainable, safe, appropriate and in the patient’s best interest. Credible evidence of ineffectiveness or harm guides us away from inappropriate care.

We explain recommendations clearly, including relevant benefits, risks, alternatives and uncertainty, so you can make an informed decision. We are proud to recommend the care we believe gives each patient the best opportunity to recover and succeed, without guaranteeing a specific outcome.

Does Insurance Determine the Treatment Plan?

Insurance coverage may influence what a plan pays for, but it should not replace clinical judgment.

Better Chiropractic is in network with UnitedHealthcare, including UMR and Golden Rule, and can bill eligible out-of-network benefits for many other plans.

Being out of network with most insurance companies gives our doctors greater freedom to recommend comprehensive care based on the patient’s findings and goals—not solely on which services an insurance plan chooses to cover.

Will I Have to Keep Going Forever?

No. Ongoing care should be a patient’s informed choice—not an automatic requirement.

Our active-care goal is to help you improve, restore function and become increasingly independent through rehabilitation and home care. Some patients later choose occasional supportive care, but that is different from an active treatment plan.

The Best Answer Begins With an Evaluation

The number of visits should be based on what is actually happening, what you want to accomplish and how your body responds.
